Hard Refresh

Sydney From A Plane

Hey there, welcome to my little corner of the internet.

My name is Preet, and I’m a Sydneysider currently in a life chapter that some might call 'unemployed.' I prefer to think of it as being in ‘career-reboot mode’ after a wild ride.

My story has a few unexpected detours. I was born in India and on a path to become an architect. At least, that was the plan. But life, with its classic sense of humour, nudged me towards the world of data and analytics instead.

My first gig out of uni was in finance at a boutique stock market research firm. It only took about seven months for me to realise my heart wasn't in it. While searching for something else, I stumbled upon the digital advertising industry — a perfect combination of numbers, creativity, and tech that instantly clicked. I applied for and got an Analyst role at a big agency and never looked back.

After about four years of learning the ropes at a couple of agencies, an opportunity fell into my lap: co-founding a new agency with two partners. For the next ten years, that business was my life. We built something from the ground up, and I wore a bunch of hats, most recently as Chief Data Officer. It was an exhilarating, chaotic, and deeply rewarding journey that ended with us selling the company. That whole experience was one of the most gruelling and gratifying things I've ever done.

After a short stint with the company that acquired us, I knew it was time to hit pause, take a proper break, and figure out what the next chapter looks like. Which brings me here!

Of course, the corporate story is only half of it. My ‘real’ resume includes stints as a waiter, a bartender, and a sales dude. And honestly, the best job I ever had was packing boxes in a warehouse — I promise.

So, why a blog? I've been contemplating this idea around for years. I'm fascinated by the intersection of data, technology, and creativity. I’m a numbers guy who still loves keeping up with finance and economics. And as I've gotten older, I've developed a deep interest in the social sciences, psychology, and mental health.

That last one is personal. I’ve seen the impact of mental health struggles up close, in my own life and in my family. I’m constantly trying to understand how our minds work, and I hope that by sharing what I learn, I can help myself and maybe help others too.

Ultimately, this blog isn't about chasing clicks or financial gain. It's about having a space to be curious, to share what I'm learning, and to connect with people.

Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you're here.
